Russia for the first time to publish data of veterans of the Latvian Legion SS, who are still alive and living in the US, Great Britain, Canada, Brazil, Australia, Argentina and Latvia. It is reported by RIA Novosti.
Total names will be revealed 96 living Latvian SS, the report will be presented on Monday at “round table” in MIA “Russia today”.
As the director of the fund explained “Historical memory” Alexander Dyukov, set of crimes, committed during the Great Patriotic War by units, that were part of this SS Legion. According to him, it was the Latvian punishers who destroyed the civilian population in the village of Zhestyanaya Gorka and the village of Chernoe.
In total, today in Latvia and other countries live about 400 former Latvian SS legionnaires. The report contains information about 96 of them. Most of the Latvian SS live in the USA – 32 man, 21 - in Latvia, 19 man in Australia, 15 - In Canada, 4 - In Great Britain, 3 – in Brazil, 2 – in Argentina.
They have their own organization “Hawks of the Daugava”, created in the post-war period. This organization actively cooperates with the authorities of Latvia, and elderly SS veterans received pensions from the Latvian Ministry of Defense and awards from the hands of the presidents of Latvia.
Recall, in the capital of Latvia, Riga, an annual procession of members of the Latvian legion takes place “Vaffen-SS”, which not only is not prohibited by the Latvian authorities, but they are supported in every possible way.
