Work on the creation of the AK-630 were initiated in February 1963 city, field tests were conducted with 1972 by 1973 gg., the Navy of the USSR it was adopted in 1976 g.
Installing the AK-630 includes automatic A-213 and the instrument (system) fire control MR-123 "Vympel".
A-213 Automatic has a very high rate - 4000-5000 rds. / min. It has a block of six barrels, rotating under the influence of propellant gases, allocated alternately from the trunk channels. It is possible to realize relatively simple and reliable circuit parallel to recharge each barrel after a shot. Power supply of the automaton is carried by firing the cartridges from the tape, consisting of steel links, disengages when firing. In the original installation, the tape was packed into a flat store capacity 2000 rounds. In the late 70-ies of the installation has been redesigned to reduce the size of its turret room. In this case, instead of the flat was put round the store the same capacity, and in the additional bin mounted Barbet, accommodating more 1000 rounds. Machine with a round magazine was designated A-213M, and installation - AC-630M.
