China introduced an improved version of the Silent Hunter laser air defense system

China introduced an improved version of the Silent Hunter laser air defense systemA company from China, Poly Technologies, presented at the DSA exhibition in Malaysia 2024 a new modification of the Silent Hunter laser air defense system ("The Silent Hunter"), placed on a 6x6 cargo chassis.

The Silent Hunter complex was developed based on the 30-kilowatt LASS low-altitude laser protection system. It is available both in landline, and in mobile versions. Silent Hunter was first shown to the general public in 2017 year, although a year earlier it was already used to cover airspace during the G-20 summit in Hangzhou.

The first and so far only foreign user of the system is Saudi Arabia. In February of this year, Poly Technologies announced the first successful neutralization by the Saudi military of a Houthi strike drone using Silent Hunter, which works in conjunction with TWA 3D radars, optimized for detecting low-flying drones.

On presented within the DSA 2024 Silent Hunter modifications are equipped with an electrically driven fiber-optic laser, operating in three ranges: at a distance from the 200 to 2000 m at power 10 kW, from 200 to 3000 m at 20 kW and from 200 to 4000 m at 30 kW. The target detection and tracking range reaches 4 km.

The installation is primarily designed to search, tracking and destroying low-flying drones, which does not exceed the speed 60 m / s. Its power is enough, to pierce five 2mm steel plates at a distance 800 m or one 5 mm at a distance 1000 m.
