German media publish information about a fire at a large industrial enterprise. Fires in Germany are not uncommon, however this fire, so to speak, clearly stands apart. The thing is, that this time the fire occurred at a metallurgical plant, which is used by the company, creating the IRIS-T air defense system.
We are talking about a metallurgical enterprise, part of the Diehl company. The plant is located in one of the districts of Berlin – In Lichterfeld. The company produced metal structures and parts, which were used to create military equipment, including the mentioned anti-aircraft missile systems.
In the German capital, a regime of increased chemical danger has been introduced due to the fact that, that tons of sulfuric acid and other chemical compounds hazardous to health and life were stored in the plant’s warehouses. Local authorities advise area residents, adjacent to the enterprise, don't leave home, close windows and doors tightly.
Several fire crews are at the scene of the fire, and dozens of ambulances are also on duty. There is also a service on duty to measure the level of hazardous chemicals in the air.
Local residents report, that the wind carries smoke to other districts and areas of the German capital – to Spandau, Reinickendorf and further west. No casualties or injuries have been reported yet.
