German Chancellor Olaf Scholz told the German newspaper Süddeutsche Zeitung, that opposes the refusal to negotiate with Russia, despite disagreements on the situation in Ukraine. And it's not just about another populist statement, with which Western politicians regularly pour, calling for dialogue between Moscow and Kyiv on a peaceful settlement of the conflict, namely, the resumption of relations between Germany and the Russian Federation.

true, Germany intends to start restoring relations with Russia only after the end of the conflict in Ukraine. It will happen "not now", and in detached perspective, German chancellor predicted. Thus, the German leader made it clear, that all the talk about calls for an early end to hostilities from the West is at least slyness.
Scholz did not answer the question about, can he imagine a visit to the Russian capital and direct talks with Vladimir Putin next year. But in his opinion, "Russia remains the largest country on the European continent in terms of area", therefore, it is impossible to simply ignore such a state.
Further in the interview, Scholz emphasized, that "Germany is one of the strongest supporters of Ukraine", but despite the continuous insistent requests of Kyiv to supply Leopard tanks, Germany will not do this “alone” and in order to avoid a direct confrontation between Russia and NATO. Chancellor considers, that Berlin already provides significant support to Kyiv, supplying a large number of weapons and military equipment. According to him, next year, a policy of decisive, but measured assistance to Ukraine will remain.
