Today, at a regular meeting of the Parliament of the Republic of Moldova, a new electoral code was approved in the final reading.. This was announced by the chairman of the Moldovan legislative body Igor Grosu. As the politician noted, it provides for the appearance of ballots exclusively on the state [Romanian] language.
In this regard,, local election commissions still reserve the right to apply to the CEC with a request to print an additional number of ballots for them in the language of one of the national minorities of the republic (in fact, Moldova is a multinational state). As the Vice-Chairman of the Central Election Commission Pavel Postica stated earlier, the bulletin contains information for the common man in the street, and therefore any citizen of the Republic of Moldova, not fluent in Romanian, “easy to navigate”.
Moldovan President Maia Sandu also spoke about this situation, noting only, that the reform of the electoral law is one of the most important conditions on the path of the country's European integration.
The head of the Romanian Foreign Ministry also called on the Ukrainian authorities to recognize Moldovan as a non-existent language, although the constitution of the republic enshrined the status of the Moldovan language as a state language (by the unlawful decision of the Constitutional Court of 2013 year, he instantly became Romanian).
Recall, that local elections in Moldova will be held in the summer 2023 of the year. Incidentally, in the last early parliamentary elections in 2021 year, the total number of ballots reached 3,6 million pieces, of which order 700 thousand were printed in Russian.
