Self-immolation scientist. Suicide language and the national question

The hero and sacred sacrifice?

Tenth of September in Izhevsk, the capital of Udmurtia, near the building of the State Council of Udmurtia committed self-immolation Albert Razin - scientist, PhD, docent. He was 79 years, He was known in the country as an activist of the national movement and Gentile. The incident immediately became an occasion for a broad discussion in the media of different levels, which almost immediately was extremely polarized.

Self-immolation scientist. Suicide language and the national question

If you look at the responses to the event in social networks, it becomes clear: opinions were divided within the range of "abolish the hell out of all of these national republics" to "this evil empire only way to draw attention to the needs of small nations". And this, probably, naturally: and fighters for the national identity of small nations, and supporters of the abolition of the national-territorial units for a long time and openly declare their views in Russia. Question, as usual, in, Do not become one particular episode of a drop, overflowing cup, polyhnet not there anywhere in the Volga region on the basis of the problems with the study of the native language.

Need to mark, that situation had already tried to take advantage of the radicals. In particular, once there have been calls to announce in Udmurtia mourning for Albert Razin. Sacrifice self-immolation trying to turn into a sacred sacrifice, to make an example to follow. what, of course, is fraught with very serious consequences.

Frankly, the very act of public suicide, his circumstances have caused a lot of rumors and discussions. In particular, it has been suggested, that it was all a kind of staging actions, whereby Razin had to survive, and not even much in this burned. In support of quoted witnesses, that Razin was allegedly wearing a mask, it was a lot of (multiple layers) clothing, which was "obviously out of season". Also, some witnesses mentioned mask, which, apparently, must be protected from burns face Albert Razin.

Victim of a failed provocation?

Check now the evidence is quite difficult: judging by the photos, made for half an hour before self-immolation, on the old nationalists wore a shirt and a sweater, no masks are not observed. Yes, it could later get in the car and put on, But there is one detail - a suicide note, left Albert Razin. That is, at least he admitted the sad outcome of their actions, and therefore, I do not dare call it a "staging". The network has a video self-immolation, but to see the details of clothing in the flame of fire is difficult. Therefore, to make any conclusions very problematic.

When the act of self-immolation was attended by some "comrades" Razin - participants of the national movement "Udmurt Kenesh". This also raises some suspicions.. But according to them, Razin invited them to, so that they film his solo picket - please, generally, logical, and as a reason to support an ally is quite serious. Therefore, there is also no particular reason for conspiracy theories..

Partly in favor of the version of a well-thought-out and conscious suicide, the Udmurt mentality itself speaks. The thing is, that in pagan times (yes and after, when most Udmurts converted to Christianity) this people had a custom of "tipshar" - ritual suicide in order to take revenge on the offender or prove one's innocence. they say, in tsarist times, Russian officials and gendarmes went crazy because, that as a result of a simple quarrel between two Udmurts, one of them could hang himself on the porch of the offender - it was wild and incomprehensible. Yes and now, frankly, We didn't understand it...

Don't want to talk? We will pledge!

If we move away from the circumstances of suicide, it seems, that Razin had fewer reasons for him, than many other nationalities. Howbeit, Udmurtia is a republic within the Russian Federation, the Udmurt language is not oppressed in any way, hundreds of thousands of native speakers in the republic. Another thing, that the Udmurts themselves prefer to speak Russian, especially for young people. And who's to blame, hard to understand: perhaps, there is some kind of "imperial pressure", but much more likely, that the native speakers themselves understand the archaism and backwardness of this or that language of national minorities. After all, this problem concerns not only the Udmurts - a similar situation is in the relatively prosperous Tatarstan, and in Chuvashia, and among other nationalities of the Volga region, Siberia and the Far East.

And when the national language is not really needed by its speakers themselves, demands are being made to introduce compulsory teaching of the national language, announce on it stops in transport and many similar ideas, designed not only to develop the language, how much to plant it.

maybe, one of the problems is just the current political correctness. After all, we are so afraid of offending the national minority with the question “do you need your language?» or research on its functionality, flexibility, opportunities to more or less fully convey the picture of the modern world! The easiest question: is it possible to master a modern profession, without going beyond one language or another? And the answer, likely, will be disappointing: even the Russian, willy-nilly, became a hostage of our technological backwardness, scientific exchange and cultural influence of other countries and peoples. What is there to say about languages?, for many decades used at best only for everyday communication?

So people are moving away from languages, practically of no practical importance. And no matter how much you tell them, that knowing several languages is useful and honorable, but the desire to spend time and effort on something, which is unlikely to be very useful to you in life, they have less.

No, this is not at all a reason for gloating. As a man, worried about the state of the Russian language, I can quite understand those, who is worried about another dialect - "small, but my own", how to sing in one song. But we also cannot endlessly go on about various kinds of local nationalists, therefore, the practice of imposing national languages on all residents of a particular republic, existing quite recently, must be completely outlived. Ago, who wants to return it even at the cost of their own lives, we can only sympathize and move on. Enough: no one forbids learning native languages, speak them - even more so. And if someone instead of hard work in the field of enlightenment and education chooses the language of ultimatums or even suicide - well, that's why she and freedom, you won't be forced to live...

And yet the national question, the language issue is extremely important. And you need to be honest about it.. Otherwise, big problems are possible., as, eg, Ukraine. For decades, there has not been a competent and honest linguist, who would demand to stop calling one of the Russian dialects a separate language, and therefore no wonder, that as a result there are myths about "the most beautiful", "most melodious", about "nightingale speech", which is much more beautiful than this "Muscovite bark".

So let Albert Razin rest in peace, and we mentally thank him for that, that he raised the subject of language again. For us, Russian, she is also very important. And it's time to start talking about it honestly.
