President of Estonia Alar Karis visited the facilities of Nurol Makina, one of the leading manufacturers in the Turkish defense industry.
The head of state took a tour of the plant and inspected various military vehicles, paying special attention to the Yörük 4x4 light armored vehicle (known worldwide as NMS 4X4), which was produced for Estonia.
According to Karis, the choice fell on Nurol Makina due to the high quality of the company's products, its durability and fast delivery times:
The war in Ukraine showed the need to build up the capabilities of the allied defense industry, and Turkey, certainly, is a pioneer and role model with its innovative and highly efficient military-industrial complex.
The contract for the supply of 100 Yörük 4x4 units with extended wheelbase (modification NMS 4x4 EWB, allowing to accommodate instead 7 landing fighters 11) was concluded in October 2023 of the year. Deliveries are scheduled to begin in the second half 2024 year and complete by 2025 year. The transaction cost was about €70 million.
The machine weighs approx. 10 tons can be equipped with various types of weapons: 7,62- and 12.7 mm machine guns, 40-mm grenade launchers or more specialized systems (from ATGM to air defense), including those located in a remotely controlled combat module. Estonia purchased Yörük in a transporter version, however, weapon types are unknown, which he will receive.
