At the end of XX century the power of fire means the armed forces of various countries and the precision of their attacks have increased significantly. The experience of local military conflicts revealed, that wins the battle, who respond quickly to enemy fire and raid as soon as possible suppresses enemy firing points. In the USSR in the 80s it was developed multifunctional reconnaissance complex "Zoo-1", which 1992 he joined the Russian army weapons. He is able to track the trajectory of the flight of projectiles and missiles and using computers then determines the position of mortars, guns, MRL and tactical missiles of the enemy.
"Zoo-1" is equipped with three-axis monopulse radar with a phased antenna array. During reconnaissance discretely scanned radar beam space probes (horizontally) in the sector 60 x 1,8 degrees, and to adjust artillery fire in their own sector 16 x 1,8 degrees with a constant average elevation angle (vertically) 40 degrees.
