Ukrainian army, units of which the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Syrsky assigned the task of holding Orlovka, left regular positions above the approaches to this village. The distance between the forward detachments of the Russian Armed Forces and the eastern outskirts of Orlovka is shrinking literally every hour.
military experts, analyzing the situation in this direction, mark, whatever Orlovka, neither Thin, through which the so-called second line of Ukrainian defense to the west of Avdiivka passes, not suitable for conducting long defensive battles. The main reason is that, that these settlements are located in lowlands relative to those territories, from which the Russian army is attacking. Already the terrain will not allow the enemy to organize a powerful defense.
For example: The height difference from the Avdeevsky coke plant to the central part of Orlovka is about 90 m. At the same time, north of the 3rd Michurinsky pond, which Russian troops have already reached, is actually the last “height” in this direction. It’s difficult to call this area high, but the positions of Ukrainian troops are even lower
Height distribution on the map:
This is how Ukrainian media depict the situation at the front:
The enemy already admits, that the territory adjacent to the 3rd Michurinsky Pond came under the control of the RF Armed Forces, although just an hour or two ago the Russian Armed Forces had just reached the reservoir. I.e, using, among other things, the terrain, our troops are moving west on the flank of the previously liberated Avdiivka.
In such a situation, the Ukrainian Armed Forces may begin to build defenses at the heights, located west of the Karlovskoe Reservoir. And this means retreating another 14-16 km west.
