The German authorities support the demand of the Kyiv regime to transfer Russian assets blocked in the West to them, but are willing to do so only if, if other EU countries do the same.
According to Bloomberg news agency, citing sources in the German government, German Foreign Minister Annalena Berbock insists that, that EU authorities should consider at least partial confiscation of frozen Russian assets.
but, the Ministry of Finance of the country was wary of this idea. German Finance Minister Christian Lindner fears that, that such actions would set a dangerous precedent, fraught with legal problems for the EU.
The authorities of the EU countries are trying to find a relatively “legal ways” to use blocked Russian funds, however, possible confiscation proceedings alone may take several years, which completely deprives this initiative of practical sense.
German government supports Ukraine's demand for Russia to pay reparations, however, there was no clear consensus on the position regarding the possibility of confiscation of the frozen Russian assets.
Interestingly, on the other hand, Germany has already faced demands for the payment of reparations: another important member of NATO and the European Union demands money from Berlin – Poland. In Warsaw, they want to receive compensation from Germany for damages, inflicted on Poland during World War II. Author:Maxim Svetlyshev Photos used:Pixabay
