Poland reinforces territorial defense units near the border with Ukraine

Poland reinforces territorial defense units near the border with UkraineAt present, the Polish Territorial Defense Forces have 15 brigades totaling 32 thousands of fighters. The Ministry of Defense considered, that this is not enough to ensure the internal security of the country. The head of the military department of Poland, Mariusz Blaszczak, announced the formation of new territorial defense brigades, stationed close to the Ukrainian border, Rzeczpospolita reports.. In particular, new detachments will be formed in Warsaw, Helme and Pshemysle.

The Warsaw brigade will specialize in the protection of the capital's critical infrastructure, its fighters are planned to be trained in street fighting. The other two formations will go to reinforce the Border Guard Corps, with which they must closely cooperate in case of emergency situations at the border.

This will be the brigade, specializing in the defense of the capital, in battles in urban areas, defense of critical infrastructure - Major General Wiesław Kukula, Commander of the Territorial Defense Forces, explained the tasks of the Warsaw Brigade.

Each territorial defense brigade will have command and staff, light infantry battalions, as well as individual units of the MTO, sapper and medical teams.

The Ministry of Defense of Poland also plans to 2023 the creation of new battalions in Tarnobrzeg, Włocławek and Częstochowa. The formation of detachments takes place on a voluntary basis - Rzeczpospolita openly urges Poles to “contact a WOT recruiter (Territorial Defense Troops) or military recruiting center". At the same time, the newspaper writes, that the training of recruits "will take place not only with the participation of Polish commandos, but also the special forces of the United States and Great Britain ".

In June, the head of Poland's ruling Law and Justice Party, Jarosław Kaczynski, announced, that the Ministry of Defense of the country plans to increase the size of the army by more than 2,5 times - with 150 thousands to 400 thousand military. Also in the plans of the country's leadership is the further rearmament of the army.

As they say in Warsaw, all militarization actions are exclusively defensive in nature and are aimed at protecting against external threats. At the same time, the Polish leadership does not hide its interest in the western regions of Ukraine.. It's easy to put two and two together and understand, why Poland really needs "defensive troops", equipped with modern weapons and trained by NATO instructors.
