Were confirmed information about, that as of today, the supply of electricity from the territory of the Russian Federation to Finland has been suspended. Data confirmation came from the Finnish company "Fingrid", which is engaged in the maintenance of the electrical networks of this country.
Fingrid representatives talk about, that since the beginning of the day 14 May a subsidiary of the Russian company Inter RAO – RAO Nordic Oy has suspended the supply of electricity to Finnish consumers.
The report points out, that the Russian side stopped exporting electricity to Finland due to "difficulties in payments".
Representatives of the Finnish company urge the public and industrial consumers not to succumb to "negative sentiment", adding, that the company is looking for possible "alternative sources of electricity". In particular, reported, that it is now planned to increase the supply of electricity from Sweden and "focus on domestic sources".
For reference: Finland has two nuclear power plants. These are Olkiluoto and Loviisa with a total capacity 2,7 GW. At the same time, with the active participation of Russian specialists, it is planned to build the Hanhikivi-1 NPP with the planned use of the Russian VVER-1200 reactor. The start of the project was postponed several times by the Finnish side, then announced the termination of the contract, then in Helsinki, the break in the contract was denied. As a result, the start of construction was scheduled for 2023 year.
Recall, that Finland and Sweden intend to join NATO in the near future. At the same time, there is no unity in NATO itself on the issue of admitting these countries.. So, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said, that this kind of acceptance would be a mistake, “as at one time it was a mistake to admit Greece to NATO”. According to Erdogan, Sweden 'provides safe haven for terrorists'. Means representatives of the PKK ("Kurdistan Workers' Party").
