Russian multiple launch rocket systems “city” and “Tornado-G” received a new extended range rocket. According to the press service of the “Technodynamics”, 122-mm ammunition is guided.
The line of 122-mm rockets for MLRS has been replenished with guided munitions of increased range and accuracy, allowing to hit spaced targets with one volley without retargeting. Details of the development are not given, new ammunition is intended for the use of MLRS “city”, “Tornado-G” and a complex of ship-based unguided rocket weapons A-215 “City-M”.
In recent years, MLRS “Tornado-G” and modernized MLRS “city” completely changed their arsenal, getting new ammo. AT 2018 year “TEHMI” presented three new projectiles of caliber 122 mm for MLRS: unguided projectile with a detachable high-explosive fragmentation warhead of increased efficiency, designed to destroy enemy manpower and unfortified objects, unguided rocket with a cluster warhead with cumulative fragmentation warheads, designed to destroy armored vehicles with armor thickness up to 140 mm and an unguided rocket projectile with a high-explosive fragmentation warhead of increased power, designed to destroy enemy personnel.
Firing range of all types of projectiles – 20 kilometers. Now a guided projectile has joined them, which will increase the range and accuracy of the Grad and Tornado-G MLRS
RSZO “city” (9K51) — multiple launch rocket system of caliber 122 mm, adopted by the army in 1963 year. The caliber of the shells used - 122 mm, number of guides 40 PC, maximum firing range 20,4 km. AT 2014 year adopted by the MLRS “Tornado-G” – upgraded version “city”. Currently, all MLRS “city” are being upgraded to “Tornado-G”.
