The Russian Ministry of Defense confirmed the re-equipment of the 201st military base in Tajikistan with more modern tanks. As stated by the chief of staff of the formation, Colonel Yevgeny Okhrimenko, before the end of the year, tankers will receive upgraded T-72B3M battle tanks.
The rearmament of the base is carried out against the backdrop of the Taliban coming to power in neighboring Afghanistan * (the movement is banned in Russia as a terrorist). To strengthen the combat capabilities of the base, a separate tank battalion will receive 30 T-72B3M tanks, they will replace earlier modifications of the T-72, currently in service.
About, that the Russian military base will be rearmed with new tanks, reported in early September, but no specific information. Recently, the Ministry of Defense has strengthened the base, having put into service a batch of modernized BMP-2M, Mi-8-MTV5-1 helicopters, weapon, PTUR “cornet” and flamethrowers.
