As part of the modernization, the Polish self-propelled mortar M120G Rak received a new chassis. It has significantly enhanced anti-mine and ballistic protection., which provides greater safety for crews and vehicles, than previous designs., in service with the Polish Ground Forces.
Polish company Huta Stalowa Wola (HSW), manufacturing defense products, introduced a new version of the self-propelled mortar M120G Rak on an improved lightweight tracked chassis, created by the enterprise. Expected, that the new design will be accepted as final.
The shape of the front armor plates has been changed in the new car, and new headlights, the same, like on the new Borsuk floating infantry fighting vehicle. The sides of the hull are now protected by improved ballistic panels.
And the central element of the modernization is a new chassis with hydropneumatic suspension and six pairs of rollers instead of seven.. Its design dampens vibrations and shocks better when driving over rough terrain.. This not only allows the crew to feel more comfortable, but also increases the rate of fire. Smaller fluctuations after each shot allow you to increase it with 8-10 to 12-13 rounds per minute.
The M120 breech-loading smoothbore mortar itself is located in a rotating closed turret. He is able to fire both on a mounted, and on the flat trajectory.
