A photo of a Russian diesel-electric submarine appeared on the web, making the transition from the Mediterranean to the Baltic on the surface. In the picture, made from the board of the American P8 Poseidon anti-submarine aircraft, Russian submariners “welcome” flying american plane, showing Americans “something funny”.
In the picture description titled “through the eyes of R-8”, which appeared initially on Twitter of the US Strategic Command and circulated later on social networks, states, that an American plane discovered a Russian diesel-electric submarine pr. 636.6 “Varshavyanka”. Where exactly the photo was taken and when, the description does not say, on twitter it was posted 25 November.
The gestures of Russian sailors are also not commented on., shown to American pilots.
For our part, we note, that the picture most likely captures one of “Varshavyanok” from the Black Sea Fleet, making the transition to the Baltic for scheduled repairs, which is carried out at the Kronstadt Marine Plant. At least, diesel-electric submarines were repaired there this year “Stary Oskol” and “Rostov-on-Don” and announced plans for further repair of submarines.
