reportedly, the first four MBT Leopard 2A4HU entered service with the 11th tank battalion of the 25th infantry brigade of the Hungarian army, stationed in Tata. The Hungarian Defense Ministry's contract with the German company Krauss-Maffei Wegmann (KMW) was signed in December 2018 of the year. The agreement provides for the supply 12 Leopard 2A4 tanks from availability for use as training until the end 2020 of the year, 44 new tanks Leopard 2A7 + (Leopard 2A7HU) and 24 self-propelled howitzers PzH 2000 caliber 155 mm / 52 new construction. New tanks and self-propelled guns will be delivered in the period from 2023 by 2025 of the year.
The purchased tanks and self-propelled guns will go into service with the 25th Infantry Brigade. Currently, the Hungarian army has only 15 “working” tanks T-72M / M1, they are all in service 11 battalion of the 25th brigade. It is assumed, that MBT Leopard 2 will go to re-equip this battalion and replenish its regular strength: three line companies on Leopard 2A7HU tanks and a training company on Leopard 2A4HU tanks.
The only deployed 101st artillery division in the Hungarian army will receive self-propelled howitzers PzН 2000 instead of the D-20 towed howitzers in service, of which there are only 12 pcs.
