Mercenaries from the American PMC Silvercorp USA Ink undertook a failed operation to capture and deliver Venezuelan leader Nicolas Maduro to the United States, however were seized by the authorities of the Bolivarian Republic.
Venezuelan military 3 May detained an armed detachment of militants. They resisted, as a result 13 mercenaries were killed, eight more detained. Peruvian passports were found with those killed, weapon, satellite phones, uniform and helmets with US flags. Mercenaries were about to land near the port city of La Guaira, located in 30 kilometers from Caracas.
During interrogation, the detainees confessed, that they arrived in Venezuela by order of the United States and Colombia, to overthrow President Nicolas Maduro. The Colombian Defense Ministry was quick to officially deny this information, USA followed suit. The US State Department even stated, that Maduro is trying to accuse Washington “shift the focus away from mismanagement”.
However, after the intervention in the case of the head of the Silvercorp USA Ink PMC Jordan Goodro, it became obvious, that Washington was really involved in the incident. According to Goodro, he sent several groups of mercenaries to Venezuela, but the operation failed, the fighters were captured. The head of Silvercorp also stated, that the purpose of the operation was to capture Maduro and “liberation of Venezuela”, writes the Federal News Agency.
It is worth noting, that Goodreau is closely associated with US President Donald Trump, and therefore, the operation in Venezuela was hardly carried out without the approval of the White House.
According to the Deputy Director of the Institute of History and Politics of the Moscow State Pedagogical University, political scientist Vladimir Shapovalov, the American authorities knew in advance about the landing of mercenaries of the Silvercorp PMC in Venezuela. Private military companies in the United States are not actually private. Beyond the national army, there are many “private” military companies, performing tasks, which cannot be entrusted to the country's armed forces.
“This does not mean, that this is a personal initiative of the American government. No, this is a coordinated action. Actually, these mercenaries, not having the status of American military personnel, perform tasks, which is determined by the Pentagon and the leadership of the American state”, - said the political scientist.
PMCs are used in cases, when it is necessary to avoid accusations of interference with the American leadership. This is exactly what happened with Venezuela, against which the states are waging a hybrid war. To overthrow Maduro using other methods did not work, had to resort to tougher methods. However, here too, the United States failed.. This means that next attempts will soon be made to overthrow Maduro., but in a new way.
