Russia will build an expeditionary ship, combining the functions of a helicopter carrier and amphibious assault ship. This was announced by the President of the United Shipbuilding Corporation Alexey Rakhmanov in an international forum “Army 2018”, RIA Novosti.
According to the head of USC, under the current state armaments program for the benefit of the corporation to build Russia's naval fleet expedition ship, which combine the functions of amphibious assault ship and helicopter. In other words, it will be multi-purpose vehicle, for performing various tasks, eg, for use as a floating hospital.
Rakhmanov said, that for the construction of aircraft carriers or helicopter, Defense should be clear about, what ships he needed and finally decide on their concept. He added, that Russia – is a geopolitical power, which has interests in various points in our world, and it needs the landing, expedition ships. Currently, the Ministry of Defense and the military-industrial complex of the country need to make the right decision with regard to the size of an aircraft carrier, the timing of its construction, aviakrıla, he will carry. And only after that to start its construction.
Earlier, the head of Industry and Trade Denis Manturov said, that will not be built in the Russian helicopter, but he added, that the final decision on this matter is still pending. The Defense Ministry explained, he was talking about the construction of amphibious assault ships.
