The chairmen of the Government of Macedonia and Greece reached an agreement regarding the renaming, which by all Macedonian authorities recently demanded official Athens. Recall, that the Greek authorities insisted, that Macedonia can be only one - a historical region in Greece, and the neighbors must necessarily change its name.
Individual Greek radicals required to change their name to such neighboring countries, which would not have been the word "Macedonia" – eg, to "Republic of Skopje" (the title of the capital).
The result has been selected "compromise" option. In a statement to local media reports stating, that Macedonia is now turning into the Republic of Northern Macedonia.
Attention is drawn to the fact, that the Macedonian prime minister Zoran Zaev and Chairman Alexis Tsipras Greek government for the agreements on renaming did not have to meet in person. They just discussed on the phone, considering, that this may be enough to change the country's name.
Recall, that since the collapse of Yugoslavia in the neighboring country of Greece official name sounded as follows:: "The former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia". It is with this wording State became a member of the United Nations.
In fact the situation with the renaming of Macedonia is complicated by the fact, that many residents do not support the idea of the republic. Prime Zaev in conversation with his Greek counterpart said, that the very name "looks promising", but eventually we need a referendum.
