Dancing continues to rake Ukrainian "Energoatom". Despite the declared bankruptcy of Westinghouse, Ukrainian regulator considers nuclear energy, that cooperation with the company need to deepen. According to the President "Energoatom" Yuri Nedashkovsky, Ukraine exploring opportunities to diversify the supply of fuel assemblies for power reactors 440 MW.
Nedashkovsky was announced, that Western companies have passed the licensing of fuel, in which the acquisition for the needs of their nuclear power plants concerned "Energoatom".
President of the company "Energoatom" adds:
There is also a set of changes, that they are ready to implement, but it takes about two years, so that the fuel can be run in production. The question is:, who is the customer of this fuel. The second option - a project to develop a new fuel for VVER-440 reactors, has passed all the necessary procedures, but of course, it is a longer process, order 6 years or more.
I.e, Nedashkovsky daёt concepts, that Western "partners" to date, there is virtually no fuel assemblies suitable for said reactors, and they can not appear tomorrow or even the day after tomorrow. Despite this, "Energoatom", who does not have funds to "diversify", still focuses on the willingness to abandon traditional fuels, used in nuclear power plants with VVER-440. At the same time more and Nedashkovsky announces the "feasibility" of the solution of fuel Westinghouse.
However, the President "Energoatom" he adds, that the final decision still has not been made. From his statements:
We also need to understand, what, if the reactor 440 MW we will operate only until 2030 of the year, that is, whether it makes sense to diversify, we are now at a crossroads.
