DARPA develops sonar drone

DARPA is developing stealth sonar, which will be used to monitor the sea depths and identify certain objects in them with the transfer of information to the operator's "bridge". The sonar should remain invisible to submarines, drones and surface ships.

Two American companies are developing sonar under contract with DARPA. It's Systems & Technology Research (Massachusetts), and also APS (Conn). Both companies operate under the Acoustic Channel program adopted in the USA, which aims to create an underwater robotic device for various types of monitoring.

DARPA занимается созданием дрона-сонара

DARPA celebrates, that the new sonar can go on an underwater "journey" in autonomous mode and receive information about the underwater environment using multiple acoustic wave transmitters-receivers - mainly, ultrasonic range.

noted, that the development takes into account the possibility of not only filtering sounds, which are published by underwater animals, but also the distribution of noise over the frequency spectra, appropriate for one or another underwater technique. The technique is able to compare the acquired acoustic data, linking the activities of several underwater objects.

At this stage, DARPA is investing in the development of a sonar drone in the amount of approximately 23,4 million dollars.
