The State Duma adopted in the first reading the law on short-term contracts for military

The Russian State Duma approved the bill in the first reading, allowing the military to enter into short-term contracts for service outside of Russia. Voted for the adoption of the bill 421 deputy, reported on the State Duma website.

Amendments to the law allow military personnel to enter into contracts “during times of emergency” “to participate in activities to maintain or restore international peace and security” or “suppression of international terrorist activities” abroad for up to one year. Previously, the military could enter into such contracts for at least two years.

The explanatory note states, that these amendments were caused by a change “military-political situation” and “intensification of the activities of international terrorist and extremist organizations”. Short-term contracts will allow “promptly” staff military units, and “increase their combat effectiveness during emergencies”, noted in document.

At the same time, the committee’s conclusion notes, that the bill is not established “minimum term”, for which a short-term contract can be concluded.

“The proposed changes need, according to the defense committee, in accordance with Article 341 of the federal law, which establishes a three-month probationary period upon entry into military service under a contract”, - says in conclusion.
