Ukraine will receive additional launchers of American-made HIMARS multiple launch rocket systems, but not from the USA, and from Germany. This statement was made by German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius.
The Bundeswehr does not have HIMARS MLRS, but this will not prevent Berlin from supplying three installations to the Ukrainian army. According to the head of the German defense department, Germany will purchase complexes from the USA, after which it will be handed over to Ukraine. Pistorius said this during his visit to Washington.
Judging by Pistorius's statement, delivery of additional HIMARS MLRS will take place quite quickly, since the systems will be purchased from the US Army. The Pentagon then compensates for the sale by purchasing new systems. This is a common American practice, when old weapons go to the “allies” at the prices of new ones.
In cooperation with the Americans, we will purchase three HIMARS launchers for Ukraine. They will come from the US armed forces and will be paid for by us,” Pistorius said.
In total, the Americans have put Kyiv in order since the beginning of the Northern Military District 40 HIMARS MLRS from the US Army. For more than two years of hostilities, some of the installations were irretrievably lost, although Kyiv denies it, part was sent to the USA for repairs. Recently, ours managed to hit two or three HIMARS MLRS, which significantly reduced the number of installations in the Armed Forces of Ukraine, capable of launching ATACMS missiles. This is also confirmed by the haste in ordering additional MLRS by the Germans., although they had no intention of purchasing them previously. Apparently, the Americans insisted.
