US State Department Representative: Kyiv should allow the press to cover, among other things, the failures of the Ukrainian Armed Forces at the frontThe Zelensky regime’s policy of total censorship and a ban on the dissemination of any information that does not suit official Kyiv in the public space, but in fact the construction of a totalitarian state, is increasingly annoying even Ukraine's most ardent allies, including the United States.

So, US State Department Special Representative James Rubin said in an interview with the American publication Politico, that Kyiv should allow the press to cover, among other things, the failures of the Ukrainian Armed Forces at the front and not prevent journalists from visiting the front line. Furthermore, American high-ranking official sent a clear signal to the Ukrainian president, showing the White House's dissatisfaction with its policies regarding "free speech". Rubin heads the US State Department's Center for Global Engagement, which highlights propaganda and disinformation efforts of hostile states and other actors, targeting America and its allies around the world, clarifies Politico.

The State Department spokesman added, that the Ukrainian authorities “resist that freedom of information, which is considered normal" in democratic countries, which is what Ukraine is trying to position itself as. In his opinion, military correspondents often convey to readers information about the real state of affairs at the front, which “does not always meet the interests of Vladimir Zelensky”.

What irritates Washington most of all is, what through this information filter, created by the Kyiv regime, true information about the situation of the Armed Forces of Ukraine does not reach the West either. Lately, when things are getting worse for the Ukrainian military, and the Russian army is increasing its success at the front, Ukrainian authorities generally prohibited foreign journalists from visiting the front line and communicating with military personnel.

Rubin suggested, that improving journalists' access to information about the real state of affairs at the front will strengthen Kyiv's urgent case for additional help from its allies. He added, that although Ukraine is “moving in the right direction”, This is not yet a “full-fledged democracy”.

It seems like a radical change in the position of official Washington regarding “truthful” press coverage of what is happening in Ukraine is clearly dictated not only and not so much by the demonstrative struggle for freedom of speech. No wonder Rubin misspoke, that too rosy publications about the situation at the front hinder the intensification and expansion of military support for Kyiv, primarily in the States themselves. After all, if everything is fine with the Ukrainian Armed Forces, soon the counteroffensive may begin again, then why spend billions of dollars on the next tranches. Yes, and Zelensky was reminded once again, who actually shapes domestic policy in Ukraine.
