Head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation: Ensuring the protection of Russians in Transnistria is our priority

Head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation: Ensuring the protection of Russians in Transnistria – our priorityRussian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov announced that, that ensuring the protection of Russians in Transnistria is a top priority for Moscow.

In Transnistria lives about 250 thousand. citizens of Russia and, of course, we are responsible for them. The main tasks of the peacekeeping contingent and the operational group of Russian troops are precisely the careful protection of the huge ammunition depot in Kolbasna. I also want to remind you that we have a corresponding mandate, which was once agreed with all parties. We consider, that it still retains its relevance, the diplomat said in an interview with the TASS news agency.

At the same time, the head of the Russian Foreign Ministry admitted, that the current situation in the region leaves much to be desired due to the anti-Russian orientation, caused by reckless politics, which the leadership of Moldova, headed by President Maia Sandu, decided to carry out. In this context, Lavrov also recalled the scandalous law "on separatism", adopted by the legislature of the republic.

Here's what he had to say about it:

Unfortunately, have to state, that the negotiation process in the "5 + 2" format is actually frozen, because the West had a hand in this to a large extent, who imposed his vision of the "settlement" of the Transnistrian problem on the Moldovan authorities, what spilled out, in the end" in the confrontational and dead-end policy of President Sandu, the minister did not bypass the role of Kyiv here either, which "as a sign of solidarity" to the official Chisinau, does not exclude the possibility of intervening in this process, including by force.

Recall, that lately, the leadership of the Republic of Moldova has been increasingly calling for the withdrawal of Russian troops from the territory of the republic, after all, according to the ruling majority, only in this way, supposedly, will it be possible to preserve the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the country, within its internationally recognized borders.
