RTO "Karakut" expects rebranding project

Ministry of Defense has decided to abandon the formidable names, who received small missile ships (RCM) project 22800 "Karakurt" and rename them after the small Russian towns, break the news.

Because of the specific name of the ship - "Hurricane", "Typhoon", "Storm", "Twister" - sailors called them "bad weather division".

Rebranding will start after the Navy Day with "Hurricane". The MRC will be called "Mytishchi". Other ships will be called the "Soviet", "Odintsovo" and "Kozelsk".

As noted in the military, the inhabitants of these cities, to enlist in the Navy contract, will receive priority right to be on the same IRC.

The newspaper recalls, that only for the Russian Navy plans to build 18 ships of the project. There are currently laid 6 «Karakutov». Two of them have already been built and joined the Baltic Fleet.

According to military expert Dmitry Boltenkova, recently in Russia began to restore the tradition to name warships after famous admirals and Russian cities. In his opinion, New name MRK project 22800 will help to strengthen ties between the Navy and the civilian population and will contribute to the growth of the attractiveness of the Army and Navy.
