It is the Wagner group (Wagner is the callsign of the oldest PMC in Russia) - first fought its way through terrorist hordes to Deir ez-Zor surrounded by IS, helped liberate Palmyra, participated in the cleanup of Aleppo.

There too “Islamic State” (organization, banned in Russia) - plus we have close interstate relations with this country with a long history, interrupted for a while with the arrival of the so-called Arab spring and resumed in full after the meeting of the defense ministers of Russia and Libya on the deck of one of the warships, actively plowing the Mediterranean Sea since last winter.

Quite possible, there is evidence, what, losing oil revenues in Syria and Iraq (all the terrorists' towers were practically recaptured and are well guarded), the masters of the so-called caliphate are actively looking for weak regimes nearby, which oil reserves would be nice to cling to. clear, what “mujahideen” at the right time they will run themselves, but in order to transport IS to Afghanistan and Central Asia, the money will not be superfluous.
In this sense, the transfer of Russian “musicians” to South Sudan - a kind of preventive measure. To send troops there would be too much noise, and so - there is a PMC. A calculating and largely profitable strategy, which by the way makes it clear: we are ready “kill terrorists” in absolutely any toilets, even if African.
