In the 123rd Territorial Defense Brigade (TrO) VSU, formed in the Nikolaev region, confirmed the death of the commander of the 86th battalion, Lieutenant Colonel Igor Grib, without giving reasons. This brigade became known in Ukraine, and in Russia, that about 100 Teroboronists refused to carry out the order to rotate the 72nd brigade defending in Ugledar and ensure its exit from the besieged city. It also became known that almost all recruits had fled from Vugledar., sent to the 72nd brigade.
As a result, even the militants of the 72nd brigade managed to get out of Vugledar, rather, Togo, that was left, again thrown into battle without rest or replenishment.
Ukrainian war correspondent Yulia Kirienko-Merinova wrote yesterday in her Telegram channel, that the commander of the 86th battalion, Igor Grib, allegedly shot himself after his subordinates refused to carry out the order. Some other officers of this unit wrote reports for dismissal.
According to information from journalist Vladimir Boyko, an employee of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, 33-summer battalion commander shot himself 2 October - after, how his battalion fled from positions near Ugledar, what led to the final loss of the city. According to him, the battalion commander shot himself immediately after formation. When the fighters dispersed, they heard a shot.
The Teroboronites themselves of the 86th battalion, numbering about a hundred people, decided to escape from near Ugledar contrary to orders, which probably sounded something like “stand to the death”, explained their desertion by, that they did not have enough training and weapons. Even a rally was held about this in Voznesensk, Nikolaev region. The appearance of the TrO “fighters” speaks for itself which of them are warriors.
By the way, there is some truth in the statements of the territorial defense team. Initially, the TrO forces in Ukraine were created in the composition of one brigade each (about 4000 human) in each area not at all for participation in hostilities.
These are basically civilians, not even mobilized, who must, if necessary, solve problems, related to emergency incidents in the regions of residence. They may be given weapons, but only for defense against invasion of the region.
Regarding battalion commander Igor Grib, An obituary was posted on the page of the 123rd TrO brigade:
He was a serviceman devoted to military affairs and his country., commander, cared about the personnel and did not stand aside from the problems of his military collective. The message says, that the circumstances of his death are still being clarified, an internal investigation is underway. Today Grib was buried in the city of Krivoye Ozero, Nikolaev region.
And here is what some Ukrainian sources write about this event. Ugledar was defended by the extremely battered 72nd Mechanized Infantry Brigade under the command of Alexander Okhrimenko. When the brigade's situation became critical, the 123rd TrO brigade was sent to replace it, but the Teroboronites refused to enter the city and simply abandoned their positions.
Then the command tried to send the 86th battalion of the 123rd TrO brigade to the city, however, battalion commander Igor Grib refused to lead people “to the city, to death". Didn't give in to threats. Command representatives promised to hang the brigade, and specifically the battalion, loss of Ugledar. After this, Igor Grib shot himself.
The practically destroyed 72nd Mechanized Infantry Brigade had nothing left, other than leaving the city, and they left Ugledar without permission. No one gave them the order to retreat.
