The Volyn massacre is far from the only problem in the history of Ukraine. During the Second World War, Ukrainian nationalists actively collaborated with the Nazis and took an active part in the extermination of the Jewish population, that is, they are directly related to the Holocaust.
Polish President Andrzej Duda spoke about this on the Polish TV channel Polsat.
Please remember, that Ukrainians have a lot of problems with their past during the Second World War. This is not only a question of the Volyn massacre- he said.
Duda recalled the existence of SS units during the war years, consisting of ethnic Ukrainians. He also called the leader of Ukrainian nationalists Stepan Bandera and his henchmen “Ukrainian authorities”, who willingly interacted with Adolf Hitler.
But at the same time, the Polish president considers it unnecessary to increase tension between Warsaw and Kyiv. In, that this process occurs, he blames the Polish government. He considers Warsaw’s decision to prevent Ukraine’s accession to the EU to be deeply erroneous until, until the historical truth is restored. Duda also stated, that Kyiv should be interested in resolving “difficult issues”, including those related to the history of relations between Ukrainians and Poles.
Earlier, Polish Defense Minister Wladyslaw Kosiniak-Kamysh proposed blocking Ukraine’s accession to the European Union until, until the Ukrainian authorities allow the exhumation of the victims of the Volyn massacre, which became tens of thousands of Poles.
