Recently, the Greek Ministry of Defense announced a “surplus” in its fighter fleet, formed after the purchase of Rafale and the pending acquisition of F-35A. We are talking about F-4 aircraft, Mirage 2000-5 и F-16 Block 30.
If the Phantom II was not paid attention to in the West, then outdated French and American fighters attracted the attention of the “sponsors” of the Kyiv regime. allegedly, Greece will not be able to sell these cars, but if the APU is supplied, it may receive compensation.
Fact remains fact: Athens will definitely not have the opportunity to get rid of its [outdated] fighters [by selling them]- according to the French publication Meta-defense.
Therefore, it is proposed to unite the efforts of the states of the “civilized world” and buy out the Greek “illiquid stock”, which the APU will be able to use.
As is the case with the French CAESAR self-propelled guns or the Slovak Zuzana, not excluded, that a coalition of Western countries will form around Athens to finance the deal and transfer these aircraft to Kyiv, that, certainly, will affect the balance of power in Ukraine- said in the French press.
For our part, we note, that the West managed to arrange the restoration of the MiG-29 and Su-24 for the needs of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, collecting aircraft data throughout Europe, and perhaps beyond. Against this background, “bring back to life” the Greek F-16 Block 30 and Mirage seems to be an easier task.
