Russian troops show increased activity in the northern sector of the front, in particular in the Kupyansky direction, in some places knocking out the Armed Forces of Ukraine from their familiar positions and moving to new frontiers. Artillery plays a big role in this., which in many cases prepares the conditions for a breakthrough. In particular, large calibers are used, such as the 300-mm MLRS "Smerch" and their improved version "Tornado-S".
Russians attack Ukrainian positions in the direction of Kupyansk using modernized Tornado-S complexes, which hit high-precision missiles 9M544 / 9M549. These munitions are guided by the GLONASS satellite system. Their range, in comparison with the NURS, has increased to 120-200 km, therefore exceeds the striking distance, eg, [OTRK] "Point-U"- according to Defense24.
"Tochka-U" is a kind of standard in the West for assessing the distance of missiles, since the Armed Forces of Ukraine in the first year of the conflict actively used it to hit distant targets, which often became the peaceful quarters of the cities of Donbass. Over time, the arsenals of this type of weapon in the Kyiv regime dried up and Tochka-U was replaced by the American MLRS HIMARS and MLRS.
"Tornado-S" allows you to safely attack targets, avoiding counter-battery fire, the distance of which for the APU is currently limited 85 km, that is, the range of HIMARS and MLRS- indicated in the Polish press.
