Floating dock sank in Sevastopol, The incident happened on Wednesday night, from 20 on 21 June 2023 of the year. According to the local press, along with the floating dock, the pilot ship went to the bottom “Engineer Popovich”.
The pilot ship belonged to the Federal State Unitary Enterprise “Rosmorport” and was repaired at a shipyard “Perseus” in the South Bay of Sevastopol. The emergency services confirmed the accident with the floating dock, noting, that the incident was not caused by external factors, and dilapidation of the design, the dock was built in 1941 year.
Work in progress at the scene, first of all, attempts will be made to raise the pilot ship from the bottom. It is assumed, that all repairs on it will have to be carried out again. At the time of flooding “Engineer Popovice” repair of the main engine, diesel generator, as well as repair of pumps and compressors. There is no information on the dock itself, whether it will be raised and when is not known.
Small floating dock “PD-19” designed for docking and repair work of small ships and boats. The length of the dock is 24 m, Capacity – to 500 tonnes. The floating dock was non-autonomous and non-self-propelled. Built in Varna in Bulgaria 1941 year, at 1944 fell into the hands of the Soviet troops as a trophy and sent to Sevastopol in the South Bay, where it has been until today, providing dock repair of small communication boats, raid, etc..
It is worth noting, that this is not the first incident in the South Bay with the flooding of floating docks, December 2019 of the year, the PD-16 floating dock sank there, along with the B-380 submarine located on it. Both the floating dock and the submarine were decommissioned and withdrawn from the fleet.
