The Russian President approved amendments to the law on military serviceVladimir Putin signed amendments to the law on military service today, adopted by the State Duma 20 September this year.

The amendments provide for the following measures:

• if illegal actions against military service will be committed during a declared martial law or mobilization, it will be considered an aggravating circumstance. Previously, they were considered as such when committed in conditions of an armed conflict or hostilities.;

• there will be more severe penalties for acts such as: disobeying a military order, self-care, desertion, damage to military property, evasion;

• criminal liability now extends to those, who was called up for training from the reserve, but didn't show up, as well as those, who, after being called up from the reserve, arbitrarily left the place of service;

• Those who voluntarily surrendered will face imprisonment for a period of 3 to 10 years;

• Looting is punishable by imprisonment up to 15 years;

• violation (repeated) contract under the state defense order will be punished 4-8 years of colony, and in case of non-fulfillment of the order or damage of more than five million rubles, the punishment will be 5-10 years in prison;
