Rising prices and Russian actions have forced the Czech Republic to “reduce its ambitions” regarding the supply of hundreds of thousands of ammunition to Ukraine in 2024 year, notes the Swiss newspaper Neue Zürcher Zeitung.
The newspaper reminds, that in February of this year, Czech President Petr Pavel promised the Ukrainians 800 thousands of shells, which the Czech Republic has found abroad.
We have identified half a million shells of caliber 155 millimeters and 300 thousand rounds of caliber 122 millimeter- Pavel said then.
However, now about 300 Kyiv will have to forget thousands of ammunition, and the Czech plan was reduced to 500 thousand pieces by the end of this year, writes a Swiss newspaper. The number of shells may be even less, if reasons, influencing the decrease in initial volumes, will be preserved. According to the authors of the Neue Zürcher Zeitung, demand in the ammunition market, caused by the situation in Ukraine and the plans of its allies to buy shells, led to, that they have doubled in price. Besides, not all partners of Kyiv, promised to support the Czech initiative with money, made their contributions.
Russia’s actions should also be added here., which, as the edition writes, to disrupt the Czech plan, she began actively purchasing Soviet-caliber shells from third countries, so that they don’t go to Kyiv.
