Hamas has an Al Asef underwater drone at its disposal, intended to strike Israel. The corresponding product is presented in the materials of this Palestinian movement, posted online.
As IDF representatives explained to Israel Defense, Al Asef is a torpedo, capable of autonomous navigation using GPS systems.
The existence of Hamas underwater drones was documented several years ago.. In May 2021 years there were reports that, that the Israeli Navy, in cooperation with the Air Force, stopped an attempt to deploy devices of this type in the country’s territorial waters.
As the IDF explains, Hamas's small-sized drones carry a warhead weighing about 50 kilograms. They move independently towards their goals, after approaching which they detonate.
Simultaneously with products of this type, Hamas designers are developing surface unmanned vehicles by converting sports or fishing boats, which are controlled remotely or autonomously and are pre-programmed to perform a specific mission.
Work is also underway on semi-submersible vessels and gliders., which may remain shallow underwater or just above the surface, making them extremely difficult to detect.
