Russia introduces an updated version of a short-range anti-aircraft missile system to the international arms market “A mosquito”. As the deputy head of the concern VKO stated “Diamond Antey” Vyacheslav Dzirkaln, the complex can be installed on boats and ships of small displacement.
“Almaz-Antey” offers for export short-range air defense systems “A mosquito” with two types of anti-aircraft missiles. The Russian fleet is already receiving this complex, now it will be offered to foreign buyers. SAM is designed for installation on boats and small ships, since the mass of the entire complex does not exceed 1,5 tons. It is designed to protect surface ships and ships from attacks by anti-ship missiles., aircraft and helicopters of the enemy in conditions of natural and artificial interference.
The updated complex received missiles “Igla-S” and “attack”, which allows him not only to repel an air attack, but also work on sea or land targets, and at a relatively long distance. And in terms of the height of the defeat of the air defense system, it is also not inferior to its counterparts, allowing you to shoot down air targets on 3,5 km. In the same time “A mosquito” is not a competitor to the ship's anti-aircraft complex “Carapace-ME”, because it has a different purpose, and the design is simpler.
The uniqueness of this complex lies in the possibility of using two types of missiles simultaneously “Igla-S”, for air targets up to six kilometers, and “attack”, on surface targets at ranges up to six kilometers- RIA Novosti quotes Dzirkaln's words.
Former company “RATE”, a member of the group “Almaz-Antey”, at the International Naval Show (MVMS-2023) presented layouts of two variants of the complex “A mosquito” – 3M47-01 and 3M47-03.
