The Argentine authorities have decided to denounce the agreement with the UK on activities in the Malvinas Islands (the British call them the Falkland Islands). This was reported in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Argentina.
Argentina signed a treaty with the United Kingdom 2016 year, when Mauricio Macri was president. Since then, the political course of Buenos Aires has changed. Now Argentina intends to return to the issue of the country's sovereignty over the islands.
Argentina's foreign ministry says broken deal is 'harmful', because it harms the interests of the country towards securing sovereignty over the Malvinas Islands. UK received special note from Buenos Aires, which emphasized, that the agreement was aimed at realizing only British interests and was offensive to the national sovereignty of Argentina.
In Buenos Aires, as it appears, not going to give up the Malvinas Islands. Rupture of the agreement sends a signal to the UK, that the conversation about the Malvinas Islands is not over. For decades, since the British-Argentine conflict, Great Britain is significantly weakened militarily and economically. Especially, now London is heavily distracted by the Ukrainian conflict.
This allows Argentina, if not right now, to try to regain control of the Malvinas Islands., the, at least, demonstrate their readiness for such actions in the future. No wonder the Secretary of the Argentine Foreign Ministry for the Malvinas Islands, Antarctica and the South Atlantic Diego Carmona announced the transition of the country's authorities to promote the restoration of sovereignty over the islands.
