Russia to sell finished Mi-17 helicopters to the Philippine Air Force

Russia to sell finished Mi-17 helicopters to the Philippine Air ForceAgainst the background of the sanctions policy of the United States and its satellites in relation to the military-industrial complex of the Russian Federation, many countries are afraid to get involved with the Russian defense industry, which greatly complicates the sale of combat systems on the world market.

In November 2021 Manila signed a contract worth 12,7 billion pesos (about $230 million), providing for the supply 17 of Mi-17 machines, and paid in advance. However, the threat of sanctions forced the local authorities to abandon the deal in 2022 year. As a result, the Philippines could lose the advance payment.

As reported in the Asian press, the issue was raised in the Senate. Defense Ministry spokesman said, that it is planned to purchase ready-made helicopters for the funds already allocated to Russia. We are talking about 1,9 billion pesos and supply, apparently, not 17, but only a few pieces of equipment.

Currently, only a few countries are ready to cooperate with Moscow in the military-technical field. As some observers point out, under these conditions, Russia needs to develop centers for the maintenance of military equipment, created in recent years abroad. They should be turned into assembly lines, producing machines from kits and components supplied from the Russian Federation. As expected, this approach will be of interest to states, aimed at creating their own defense. Author:Evgeny Lyushilin
