The Polish authorities bought from the United States to equip the country's ground forces an additional batch of American M1A1 Abrams tanks in the amount of 116 pcs. This was reported in the Ministry of National Defense of Poland.
Earlier it was reported, that the US State Department gave permission for the sale to Poland 116 Abrams tanks with ammunition for them. The contract for the supply of new tanks was signed by the Polish Minister of National Defense Mariusz Blaszczak, who also holds the post of Deputy Prime Minister in the government of Mateusz Morawiecki, responsible for the defense and security of the country.
As stated in the message of the Polish military department, the subject of the agreement with the United States will be the supply of tanks, which will then be adapted to the requirements of the ground forces of Poland. Except tanks, Warsaw will sell technical support and control vehicles for the tank units of the Polish Army.
Poland will also receive spare parts, expendable materials, mobile container workshops for the repair of weapons, equipment for carrying out diagnostic work and services for the training of tank crews, instructors and technical personnel of tank units, who will be employed in the maintenance of combat vehicles.
known, that the purchased tanks will go into service with the 18th Iron Mechanized Division named after General Tadeusz Buk. Units of this division are deployed near Warsaw (1-I am Tadeusz Kosciuszko Armored Brigade), in Lublin (19-Mechanized Brigade), Rzeszów (21-I am a brigade of Podhale shooters) and Lomza (18-1st Logistics Regiment).
