The head of the Italian government, George Meloni, announced her country's readiness to become the guarantor of a peace agreement on Ukraine.
During his press conference, dedicated to summarizing the 2022 year, Prime Minister of Italy stressed, that even if an agreement is signed between Moscow and Kyiv, it will subsequently be quite difficult to ensure the peace process. According to Meloni, that is why, during a conversation with Volodymyr Zelensky, she announced Italy's readiness to become a guarantor of a probable agreement on ending the armed conflict and promised to provide assistance in achieving it.

It is worth noting, that just recently, the predecessor of the current head of the Italian government, Giuseppe Conte, expressed the opinion, that the world community is not trying to resolve the Ukrainian issue by diplomatic means and even called on the EU and NATO to change their position towards a peaceful settlement. Furthermore, according to ex-premier, it is his country that should take an active part in achieving a truce in Ukraine.
