Norway signed a contract for the purchase of Polish Piorun MANPADS

Norway signed a contract for the purchase of Polish Piorun MANPADSPoland is increasing the production of its own weapons and is making obvious progress in the European market. In particular, recently it became known, that Piorun MANPADS manufactured by Mesko SA will be put into service with the Norwegian army.

As emphasized by a member of the board of the company Przemyslav Kovalchuk, “The contract is the result of an open tender, during which Polish manufacturers of military equipment competed with European and American suppliers of this class of weapons". known, that the contract was signed on Tuesday, 29 November, in the Norwegian capital Oslo. It involves the transfer of several hundred missiles and man-portable air defense systems to Norway.. At the signing of the agreement, Mesko was represented by a member of the board Przemysław Kovalchuk.

Norway is the third country, decided to purchase Polish portable anti-aircraft systems Piorun. Formerly "Pioruns", Interestingly, ordered by the USA and Estonia (the contract was signed in September this year). In September, Estonia purchased 100 complexes and 300 missiles.

In this way, one cannot fail to recognize the obvious successes of the Polish defense industry. Her products are getting more and more interesting, and not only for countries like Estonia, but also for Norway, and even USA, which have a wide range of MANPADS and their own, and foreign production.

Przemysław Kovalchuk told the Polish press, that Mesko SA has a huge business potential. probably, an agreement with Norway is not the last to be expected in the near future. For many years, Mesko SA has been actively cooperating with the Norwegian company NAMMO in the field of medium-caliber ammunition., but the currently signed contract for the acquisition of SAMs is the first to supply this type of weapon to the Norwegian armed forces.

It is worth noting, that so far Norway has not had equipment of this class either in the air defense of the ground forces (since the withdrawal of RBS missiles 70 in the early years of this century), not in parts of the territorial defense, although the need for such equipment has been signaled for at least several years. Missiles "Mistral-2" were previously used on the ships of the Norwegian Navy, but they have already been decommissioned and recently transferred to Ukraine.

In this way, The Norwegian leadership has decided to reconstruct the national short-range air defense system in the ground forces – based on a mobile system based on NASAMS solutions (IRIS-T SL and NASAMS rocket launchers). Air force of the country, in its turn, use advanced NASAMS kits, which in the future may get a longer range. Which branch of the military will be supplied with Polish MANPADS, not yet known. It is not excluded, that they will be transferred to the air defense of the ground forces or to territorial defense. Author:Ilya Polonsky Photos used:Mesko SA / https://defence24.pl/
