Joint Russian-Lao military exercises kick off in the Lao People's Democratic Republic “Laros-2022”. The opening ceremony was held at one of the military training grounds of the Lao People's Army. It is reported by the press service of the Ministry of Defense.
Russia in these exercises is represented by the Eastern Military District. As explained in the military, tanks went to Laos, motorized rifle units from the VVO. Laos is represented by reinforcement units of the People's Army of the Republic. celebrated, that this is the third joint exercise between the two countries.
The purpose of the joint exercises "Laros-2022" is to develop friendship between the two fraternal peoples and the armed forces of the states. Military cooperation allows improving the defense potential of the two countries- said at the opening ceremony, Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the NAL, Lieutenant General Phansang Bunphan.
As explained in our command, as part of the exercises, a scenario of a counter-terrorist operation will be played out with the involvement of armored vehicles of the Lao army.
It is worth noting, that in recent years, Laos has been quite actively building relations with Russia, overtaking in this even Vietnam with its once “pro-Russian” position. Laos buys Russian armored vehicles and aircraft, in particular tanks T-72B1 “White Eagle” and combat training aircraft Yak-130. Russian specialists of the International Mine Action Center of the Russian Armed Forces 2018 have been training sappers of the Laos army for years, helping to clean up the country from the rest of the Americans “gifts” in the form of unexploded shells and bombs, thousands dropped on Laos in 1960-1970 years.
