A regular meeting of the UN Security Council was held yesterday in New York., convened at the initiative of the USA and Albania (non-permanent member of the UN Security Council) on the non-recognition of referendums in the DPR, LNR, Zaporozhye and Kherson regions. Russia, one of the five permanent members of the Security Council, vetoed the resolution. In fact, India and China expressed their disagreement with the language proposed in the final document (permanent member of the UN Security Council), whose representatives abstained from signing the resolution.

In the final resolution, in particular, there was an appeal to the entire world community not to recognize the change in the status of the “Luhansk, Donetsk, Kherson and Zaporozhye regions of Ukraine", as well as their accession to Russia. Besides, Moscow was demanded to immediately withdraw military forces from Ukraine.

Permanent Representative of the Russian Federation to the UN Vasily Nebenzya, commenting on the text of the document, He stated, that some of the colleagues on the Council in this situation violated decorum and hit rock bottom. He noticed, to adopt a resolution, directly condemning one of the permanent members of the Security Council, no one has ever been able to. It would be strange, if Russia voted ... against itself. But something else is important in the voting results. The resolution was supported by ten countries from 15 permanent and non-permanent members of the Security Council, four abstained, including China and India. The other two countries are Brazil and Gabon.

China abstains from voting on resolution, said Zhang Jun, Permanent Representative of the People's Republic of China to the UN.

The representative of the People's Republic of China explained his position by, that the UN Security Council should take objective and constructive decisions, aimed at the diplomatic settlement of conflicts, and not vice versa.

India's Permanent Representative to the UN, Richura Kamboj, said, that the country will abstain from voting:

Escalation of rhetoric and tension in no one's interest, it is important to find a way to return to negotiations. Taking into account the whole developing situation, India abstains from voting. Of course, the position of New Delhi and Beijing does not mean, that these countries recognize referendums and the entry of the former regions of Ukraine into the Russian Federation. They did not do this after the annexation of Crimea, won't do it now. In the same time, two major powers with a combined population of almost three billion people, powerful growing economies have once again demonstrated, that the political hegemony of the West, led by Washington, has come to an end.
