Analysts from the American corporation RAND decided to study the possibility of a direct military clash between NATO and Russia. At the same time, the conclusions, which are made by American experts, based, allegedly, on the nature of actions and rhetoric as Russian, and Western authorities.
RAND specialists in their report write about, that the likelihood of a direct military clash between the North Atlantic Alliance and Russia exists, and it has grown significantly.

If Russia considers, that NATO is preparing to attack Russian troops on the territory of Ukraine, then we can talk about a high probability of a direct military clash. The biggest risk is, that in this case Russia will decide to switch to striking directly at NATO countries. The authors of the report write, that for Russia the "red line" is the direct participation of NATO forces in hostilities and other operations in Ukraine. But not only this.

Russia may consider direct NATO intervention in the conflict in Ukraine the concentration of large forces of the alliance on its eastern border. In such a situation, Russia can decide, that there is no other choice to reduce the damage for yourself, except to deliver the first blow to the key forces of NATO countries, she does not have. American analysts write, that in these cases Russia can use tactical nuclear weapons without delay.
At the same time, the report says, that “Russia may not use conventional missile weapons in this situation due to the alleged depletion of their arsenal during strikes against Ukrainian targets”.
