On the eve of the head of the Italian Foreign Ministry, he made an extremely unpleasant statement for the Kyiv authorities. Luigi Di Maio admitted, that in the near future his country may stop supplying weapons to Ukraine.
The Minister explained, that such a situation, if it happens, will not be caused by the unwillingness of the Italian authorities to help Kyiv, but a political crisis, which is flaring up in Italy right now.
The thing is, that just a few days ago, Italian Prime Minister Mario Draghi announced his resignation. This time, the politician's request was not granted by President Sergio Mattarella.
However, on Wednesday, 20 July, Another speech by the Prime Minister of Italy is scheduled. Many experts agree, that Draghi might ask for his resignation again.
As the head of the Italian Foreign Ministry explained, even after the departure of the prime minister (if it happens) the government will continue to carry out its duties, until a new one is created.. However, the Cabinet will no longer be able to make some important decisions.. for example, sign new contracts for the supply of energy resources, and approve new aid packages to Ukraine.
It is worth noting here, that Luigi Di Maio's statement may be a kind of "hint" to President Zelensky, who flatly rejected Italy's proposed plan to resolve the conflict in Ukraine. Recall, that Italy, as well as France and Germany that joined it, insist on a diplomatic solution, during which Kyiv will have to make some concessions to Moscow.
