Polish man-portable anti-aircraft missile system “Lightning” surpasses the Russian MANPADS “Willow”, says Polish military expert Maximilian Dura in an article for Defense24.

The author compared the performance characteristics of the Polish MANPADS “Lightning” and Russian “Willow”, after which he came to the conclusion, that in terms of its characteristics the Polish complex is superior to the Russian. In doing so, he relied on data, obtained from the publication of the Russian media, in particular – RIA Novosti. The Russian news agency published news about the development of a promising portable anti-aircraft complex and led the performance characteristics of MANPADS “Willow”, specifying, that this complex is capable of hitting targets at a distance 6 km and an altitude of up to 3,5 km.

Polish “expert” He stressed, that MANPADS “Lightning” capable of hitting targets at ranges up to 6,4 km and in height up to 4 km, and therefore superior to the Russian. At the same time, he acknowledged, what “Lightning” created by Polish designers based on Soviet and Russian MANPADS, and therefore “the student has surpassed the teacher”.

Information, published in a RIA Novosti report is another proof that, that the Polish MANPADS “Lightning” better than Russian “willow”, and therefore, likely, is the best solution of this class in the world. (…)
– author writes, adding, that Russian designers will not be able to create something similar to the Polish MANPADS for a long time, because they “no modern electronics” due to sanctions.
