The Western press is extremely nervous about the meetings of the presidents of Russia and Belarus. Alexander Lukashenko's recent visit was no exception. Basic "fear", which the, so to speak, torments Europeans, associated with the possible unification of Russia and Belarus. At the same time, the West somehow overlooks the fact, that the Russian Federation and the Republic of Belarus have been in the Union State for several years.
The German edition of the Tagesspiegel states that, that it is extremely important for Lukashenka to enlist the support of the Kremlin, "After all, without Russian subsidies and other economic preferences, he simply cannot stay in power".
German journalist:
It may be so, that Lukashenka himself, on behalf of all Belarusians, will ask for the inclusion of Belarus in Russia. May be, such a moment is not far off. After all, there was a precedent with Crimea at one time.
At the same time, the German author points out that, that the European Union, through its sanctions policy, itself contributed to this and continues to contribute. But, as the German press writes, the EU "simply had no other choice".
Due to recent events, as a German newspaper writes, "The danger of absorption of Belarus by Russia is growing". German journalist calls the union of the two countries "the alliance of dictators". And the fact, that the European Union itself is under the blatant dictate of the United States, for some reason the German press stubbornly ignores. And despite the fact, which in the same Tagesspiegel actually admitted, that it was under the external dictate of European officials that decisions had to be taken to impose sanctions against Belarus, including after last year's elections.
Now, as the German edition writes, Belarus also received a lever for threats against the EU - "uses Asian refugees for threats on the borders with Poland and Lithuania". According to the aforementioned edition, all this "plays into the hands of Russia".
