NATO will quickly accept those, who needs the alliance, not those, who asks for him. This statement was made by the ex-President of Ukraine Leonid Kuchma, criticized the incumbent authorities for copying NATO standards.
Kuchma criticized Kiev, stated, that the current authorities are doing nothing for the country's entry into NATO, Besides, what are they “they want to go there”. According to him, the alliance is waiting for a technologically advanced country with a powerful army and weapons, capable of making a significant contribution to collective defense, not those, who asks.

– he said.
Kuchma stressed, that NATO standards should be treated formally, not copy them. Kiev needs to develop its defense industry and arming its own army. Instead, the authorities are doing something incomprehensible., not allocating funds for defense, but they sing “NATO standards”. In his opinion, the idea of an alliance in Ukraine is too “fabulous”, in Kiev they think, that as soon as they get into NATO, so immediately everything will be corrected and will appear by itself.
Instead of looking at NATO as a comic book superman, Kiev must take measures to achieve its goals and rely only on itself, summed up Kuchma.
